CAROLINA ROLLERGIRLS ROLLER DERBY | INTERLEAGUE BOUT 3 WRAPUP
Raleigh, North Carolina - September 16, 2006... Dorton Arena. That's right... Dorton Arena. The Carolina Rollergirls have officially checked in to their new digs. No more small, hot and sweaty Skate Ranch... it is on to the much larger, hot and sweaty Dorton. The Skate Ranch could only pack in around 700 fans, and that was done on a regular basis at the sold out bouts. However, nearly 2000 screaming lunatics showed up at the Raleigh's "Cattledome" for the inaugural bout there this past Sunday... and it was rocking.
The bout started off pretty even, with Roxy Rockett of Carolina scoring 3 points and Sin City getting 3 of their own. In the next jam, Sin City took the lead by getting 4 points while holding Violet Femme and Carolina to only 2. Then enter Teflon Donna for Carolina... racking up 9 points while her team held Sin City to just 3. Carolina now holds their first lead of the bout by a score of 14 to 10. Princess America and Carolina rolled up 4 points to Sin City's zero in the following jam and then Roxy Rockett put up 4 points for Carolina while holding Sin City to just one. Princess America and Carolina dropped another 5 points on Sin City in the next jam and managed to hold them scoreless again. Roxy Rockett and Carolina followed that up with 4 more points to Sin City's zero, extending their lead yet again. The next jam saw Violet Femme and Carolina getting 4 points, while Sin City started to show some signs of life by getting 6 points. In the following jam, Teflon Donna and Carolina squeaked out 2 points while holding Sin City scoreless yet again. Princess America and Carolina were shutout in the next jam, while Sin City managed 2 points to try to breathe some life back into their team. However, Roxy Rockett and Carolina knocked the breath right out of them in the following jam, racking up 9 points while holding Sin City to only 2. After a scoreless jam for both teams, Teflon Donna and Carolina wrapped up the first period with 3 points, while shutting out the ladies from Sin City. Carolina now holds a commanding lead by a score of 48 to 21.
Sin City started off the second period looking to bounce back, and they managed a little spark by getting 3 points while holding Penelope Bruz and Carolina to zero. Both teams followed up with a scoreless jam, then Sin City got another 3 points while keeping Princess America and Carolina off of the scoreboard again. After another scoreless jam for both teams, it appeared that Sin City was starting to get a feel for the cold concrete floor of Dorton and were grabbing themselves a little momentum while keeping the high scoring Carolina girls in check. But Princess America and Carolina put the kibosh on that in the next jam by putting up 5 points while blanking the Sin City girls. The next jam saw Carolina and Roxy Rockett getting 4 points while Sin City scored 4 of their own... keeping the momentum from sliding back to the home team. That is when all hell broke loose... with Violet Femme and Carolina kicking up 9 points to Sin City's zero... and then following that up with Betty Rumble of Carolina throwing up a sultry 13 points while holding Sin City to just 5. The score now stands at 79 to 36, with Carolina holding the giant margin. A scoreless jam by both teams gave the crowd a chance to catch their breath, until Roxy Rockett and Carolina scored another 6 points... just getting edged out by Sin City's 7 points. The final minutes of the second period saw two scoreless jams by both teams... leaving us with a lopsided second intermission score of 85 to 43... Carolina.
Carolina begins the third and final period with a seemingly insurmountable lead, but Sin City is still fighting... getting 2 points in the first jam of the period while holding Violet Femme and Carolina to zero. Sin City followed that up with 7 more points while Eva Lye and Carolina came in with 5 points of their own in the jam. The next jam saw each team scoring 2 points, with Carolina's points coming by way of Princess America. Carolina continued their dominance in the following jam, with Roxy Rockett knocking down 4 points while her and the Carolina crew held Sin City scoreless. Jamming for the first time in the bout, the speedy Eris Discordia ripped off 9 points for Carolina while Sin City were held to zero. Roxy Rocket of Carolina followed up with 6 more points, while her teammates held Sin City scoreless for the 16th time. Sin City blanked Violet Femme and Carolina in the next jam while scoring 2 points, but it is way to little... way too late for the ladies from Vegas. Betty Rumble and Carolina scored 6 points in the following jam with Sin City scoring 4... extending the Carolina lead to nearly 60 points. Penelope Bruz racked up 7 points for Carolina in the next jam, with Sin City scoring 4 more. The final jam of the evening saw Betty Rumble and Carolina getting 3 points while holding Sin City to one. Carolina takes this bout in a 127 to 65 beatdown.... winning their first Dorton bout.
This interleague bout was the best I have seen, and the worst drumming of a derby team I have seen as well. Sin City rolled the dice when they strolled into town, and came up with snake eyes. They put up a valiant effort, but the ladies of Brawleigh proved to be too much to handle. With nearly 2000 fans packing the place, screaming their lungs out, and drinking all of the beer... it was a rowdy atmosphere from start to finish. I was very impressed with the turnout... very impressed with the Carolina team... and very proud to have been a part of the inaugural bout at the new home of the Carolina Roller Derby. This is a giant step for the ladies of Brawleigh... and a sign of great things to come.

Next up for the Carolina Rollergirls, they pack up their bags and head out west to Sin City for a rematch with those vixens from Vegas in October. Then it is back home in November for their bout versus Providence. Be sure to get tickets and be a part of the action.
